OECD participation in UNFCCC's COP-14 Poznan (December 2008)

In December 2008, OECD was present in several ways at the "COP-14" UN Climate Change Conference in Poznan, and other associated events in Poland.

• A new OECD booklet was launched: "Climate Change Mitigation: What do We Do?". Free copies were available at the OECD exhibit stand.
• OECD Deputy Secretary-General Pier Carlo Padoan participated in the "Summit on Sectoral Co-operation: Ministers and business leaders towards common responses to climate change", hosted by the Polish Ministry of Economy in Warsaw. 27-28 November.
• OECD/IEA "Annex I Expert Group" side event, “Enhancing climate change mitigation post-2012”. See webcast. Theme: This side event presented AIXG analysis on differentiating countries in terms of mitigation commitments, actions and support; ensuring the measurability, reportability and verifiability of GHG mitigation actions; and broadening participation via sectoral approaches. 4 December.
• OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría participated in "Low Carbon Growth", the High-level of Ministers of Finance on Climate Change, hosted by Poland in Warsaw. See the Secretary-General's remarks. 8-10 December.
• OECD contributes to COP14’s Local Government Event 10 December.
• OECD side event, “The Economics of Climate Change Policies" 11 December.
  Chair: Lorents G. Lorentsen, OECD Director for Environment, with participation by high-level government officials and experts. Theme: Both the costs of climate change and the costs of action are expected to be large and unevenly distributed. The OECD presented new analysis focussing on policy mixes that can help keep costs of action low, incentivise clean technology, and generate the necessary financing and investment flows.
• OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría submitted an official written statement to the COP-14 High-Level Segment for intergovernmental organisations. 12 December.
