The core mandate of the Bank's Operation Evaluation Department (OPEV) is to conduct independent evaluation studies, develop and harmonize evaluation standards and practices, support evaluation capacity development together with partners and attest to the validity of both the processes and the results of self evaluation activity. Over the years, substantial progress has been made in meeting this core mandate. The department has conducted over 360 operations evaluation and studies, made evaluation an integral part of the Bank work and has evolved over time to achieve greater autonomy and independence in conducting evaluation work. It has been providing relevant lessons to the Operations Complex and has made the logical framework approach mandatory. Steps are now being taken to orientate the Bank programmes in the framework of results based management.
