e-Learning Course on " Statistics, Knowledge and Policy: Understanding Societal Change" (March 1 to April 2, 2010)

 

 

A joint activity under the Global Project, OECD, UNITAR and STATEC Luxemburg will conduct an instructor-led five-week e-Learning course on “Statistics, Knowledge and Policy: Understanding Societal Change”.

 

These courses will be run as online. modules over a 5 week period and will include support from OECD based tutors who will assist participants throughout the duration of the course.

 

 

Focus

The E-Training course will focus on:

a. identifying the importance of statistics for reform, democracy and informed decision-making

b. measures of progress that go beyond GDP

c. tools to transform statistics into knowledge, evidence, civic engagement and policymaking

 

 

Some of the topics that will be covered in the course modules include:

  • Evidence for understanding social change
  • How we can improve the credibility of evidence
  • New measures to understand societal changes
  • Why measure the progress of Societies?
  • Tools for turning statistics into knowledge
  • Issues associated with communicating statistics
  • Main approaches in measuring progress and measuring wellbeing
  • The Australian experience of measuring progress in practice
