What’s new?

BTD is now updated on a 'rolling basis' like the STAN Industry database. In the current version, series are published up to 2008 for 15 countries (Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey), while 4 countries (Australia, Hungary, Korea and Spain) are presented with data to 2007. Countries for which series stop in 2006 or 2007 will be added as they become available.

The STAN Bilateral Trade Database (BTD) is compiled by the Economic Analysis and Statistics Division (EAS) of the Directorate for Science, Technology and Industry (STI).  This database is designed to provide analysts and researchers with values of exports and imports of goods in OECD countries, broken down by partner country (or geographical / economic  area) and economic activity.

BTD is derived from the OECD's International Trade by Commodity Statistics (ITCS) database, where values and quantities of imports and exports are compiled according to product classifications and presented by partner country. To compile BTD, ITCS data are converted from product classification schemes to an activity classification scheme using a standard conversion table. The industry list used is based on the ISIC revision 3 classification and is compatible with other OECD data sets such as the STAN Database for Industrial Analysis, the Business Expenditure on Research & Development by Industry (ANBERD), the OECD Input-Output Tables and the STAN Indicators. Details of those and other databases can be found on STI   internet site.

In BTD,  exports and imports are provided for all OECD countries and a selection of Non Members, notably the OECD Accession countries and those which belong to the Enhanced Engagement Program. Compared to the edition which was released in 2006, the list of partner countries has been expanded and includes 65 partners. Data are presented in US dollars at current prices and can be converted to national currencies using the currency exchange rates included in the database. More information is available from BTD’s documentation file.
