The OECD Short-term Economic Statistics Working Party (STESWP) is a subsidiary body of the OECD Committee on Statistics (CSTAT). It is the forum for on-going discussion between OECD Member countries and CSTAT observer countries (currently Brazil, Chile, China, India, Russian Federation and South Africa) on substantive issues relating to best practice and identification of areas requiring improvement (especially to improve international comparability) in short-term economic statistics. The work of the Working Party entails an appropriate balance between analysis of specific short-term economic indicators and methodological work on cross-cutting issues related to short-term economic indicators in general, both with a view to agreeing on recommendations for improvements by participating EU and non-EU countries.
The activities of STESWP are undertaken in co-operation with other international organisations, the European Commission (the Statistical Office of the European Communities - Eurostat) and other relevant agencies, working parties and forums. Tasks are designed to complement work in Europe to improve timeliness and coverage of euro area short-term economic indicators. The usual method of operation for STESWP is through small informal task forces comprising interested organisations, each covering specific areas of work.
