OECD Social Expenditure Database

 

The OECD Social Expenditure Database has been developed to provide a tool for monitoring trends in social expenditure at the aggregate level and to analyze changes in the composition of social expenditures in OECD countries.

OECD Social Expenditure Database (SOCX) includes historical series from 1980 onwards, depending on availability, on public and mandatory private sector social expenditure at programme level classified under the following 13 social policy areas:

  1. Old age cash benefits
  2. Disability cash benefits
  3. Occupational injury and disease
  4. Sickness benefits
  5. Services for the elderly and disabled people
  6. Survivors
  7. Family cash benefits
  8. Family services
  9. Active labour market programmes
  10. Unemployment
  11. Public expenditure on health
  12. Housing
  13. Other contingencies

 

SOCX is a multi-dimensional database, presenting social expenditure data in the following units:

  • at current prices in national currency
  • at constant 1995 prices in national currency
  • at current prices and purchasing power parities in US-dollars
  • at constant 1995 prices and purchasing power parities in US-dollars
  • at current prices in national euro currency
  • as a percentage of GDP (according to Systems of National Accounts 93)
  • as a percentage of public expenditure

 

Social expenditure data in the above listed categories and units is shown in six chapters:

  • Public Expenditure
  • Mandatory Private Expenditure
  • Voluntary Private Expenditure
  • Obligatory and Mandatory Private Expenditure
  • Public and Mandatory Private Expenditure
  • Public, Mandatory and Voluntary Private Expenditure

 

Included are electronic versions of a 42-page manual, presenting an interpretative guide to the OECD Social Expenditure Database, and 185-page document containing detailed Notes and Sources on individual country data.
