GDP in the OECD area rose by 0.9% in the first quarter of 2006

30/05/2006 - Gross domestic product (GDP) in the OECD area rose by 0.9% in the first quarter of 2006, higher than in any of the seven previous quarters, according to preliminary estimates.

 In the United States GDP grew by 1.3% in the first quarter of 2006, the highest growth rate observed since the third quarter of 2003. Japan’s GDP rose by 0.5%, considerably less than the average quarterly growth of 1% in 2005. GDP in the euro area rose by 0.6%, up from 0.3% recorded in the previous quarter. 

Among the Major Seven* countries GDP growth in the first quarter of 2006 ranged from 0.4% in Germany to 1.3% in the United States...
