African Economic Outlook : launch date is announced

The 2007 edition of the African Economic Outlook (AEO 2007) will be launched for the media on 14 May at the OECD Forum in Paris.

AEO 2007 is published jointly with the African Development Bank (AfDB), and will also be made available to participants at the Bank’s Annual Governors meeting, to be held in Shanghai on 13 May 2007, while the book itself will be formally published on 15 May.

The 2007 edition, covering 31 African countries, provides a special focus on water and sanitation.

Growth in Africa

Economic activity in Africa is estimated to have risen by nearly 5.5 per cent in 2006, and is expected to remain high, at 5.9 per cent and 5.7 per cent in 2007 and 2008, respectively. Oil-exporting countries, however, are outpacing others by a substantial margin.
