2nd Eurasian Corporate Governance Roundtable: 7-8 June 2001

The Second OECD-World Bank Eurasian Corporate Governance Roundtable was held in Tbilisi, Georgia with the support of the International Finance Corporation, the US Agency for International Development, the Japanese Government, and the Global Corporate Governance Forum.  Over 130 leading representatives of governments and from the private sector, as well as academics, members of international financial institutions and experts from OECD Member countries met to monitor and evaluate corporate governance developments in the region and examine in depth the importance of transparency and disclosure on all matter regarding the corporation.

Participating Eurasian countries included Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and Mongolia.  Hosted by the National Securities Commission of Georgia, the Georgian Stock Exchange and the International Regional Federation of Accountants and Auditors of Eurasia, this second meeting of the roundtable:

  • Explored the role of disclosure and its contribution to improving both the domestic and foreign investment climate;
  • Considered impediments to the implementation of better disclosure practices in the Eurasian context and contribute to improve the understanding of disclosure practices;
  • Served as a central vehicle in the process of identifying key areas for improvement in the regulatory domain and in private practice.
