School safety publications

Two PEB publications on school safety and security are being distributed in countries beyond the OECD. Keeping Schools Safe in Earthquakes – the product of an international workshop which led to the OECD Recommendation Concerning Guidelines on Earthquake Safety in Schools – was recently published in India (in English) for distribution in Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The book was also printed in Iran (in Persian) for distribution in Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan and Tajikistan. License agreements allow the publishers to translate, print and disseminate the book themselves at print cost.

In early 2006, Lessons in Danger was published in Japanese. This book comprises papers from the “International Conference on School Safety and Security”, co-organised by PEB and the United States Department of Education.
