Theme of 2009 AEO announced

The African Development Bank, OECD Development Centre and UN Economic Commission for Africa have chosen 'Innovation in Telecommunications' as the thematic focus of the 2009 edition of the African Economic Outlook (AEO).

Each year the AEO takes an in-depth look at an issue of critical importance for the continent's advancement. This year's theme completes the series on infrastructure sectors examined in previous editions: energy supply and poverty (2003), transport infrastructure (2005) and access to drinking water and sanitation (2007).

An experts meeting on 'Innovation in Information and Communications Technologies in Africa' will be held in Paris on 15 December 2008. Further information on the event will be made available shortly.

The AEO 2009 will be released in May 2009.
