In-depth reviews of national competition laws and policies began in 1998. These reviews assess how each country deals with competition and regulatory issues, from the soundness of its competition law to the structure and effectiveness of its competition institutions.
Detailed background reports are peer reviewed before publication by the Competition Committee, the OECD’s Global Forum on Competition, or the OECD/IDB Latin American Competition Forum. The reports, which typically incorporate recommendations for changes in government policy, quickly become part of national public debate, as they are closely analysed by government, the media and other influential commentators.
Reviews have been completed and published for 30 Members and non-members. A review of Ukraine was complete in 2008, and reviews of Italy and the Czech Republic are in progress.
