Gurría to present OECD Economic Survey of the Slovak Republic

30/03/2007 - The OECD’s Secretary-General, Angel Gurría, will present the latest Economic Survey of the Slovak Republic in Bratislava on Thursday 5 April 2007.  The survey says strengthening the country’s long-term economic growth and reducing income inequality will depend on raising employment rates, improving educational performance and boosting product-market  competition.

The survey will be available to journalists in English and Slovak on the OECD's password-protected website at 11.00 a.m. Paris time (9.00 GMT) for immediate release.

The presentation, which is open to the press,  will take place at 10.00 a.m. at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Congress Hall), Hlboká cesta 2, Bratislava.To register for the event, journalists should contact  Marianna Pilatova of the Ministry’s press service (tel. +421 2 5978 3624).

A Policy Brief with the main conclusions of the survey will be freely accessible in pdf format (in English, French and Slovak) on the OECD’s web site at www.oecd.org/eco/surveys/slovakia. You are invited to include this internet link in reports on the survey.

Among the questions investigated by the survey are:

  • How can high economic growth and social cohesion be sustained?
  • What can be done to support economic performance once in the euro area?
  • How can employment rates be increased?
  • What can be done to improve education outcomes ?
  • How could product market competition be strengthened?

Journalists will be allowed advance access to the electronic version of the publication, by e-mail and under embargo, four hours ahead of release time. For journalists in Asia/Pacific time zones such advance access is allowed 12 hours ahead of release time.
