2nd Expert Meeting on Insurance Regulation and Supervision in China, 9-10 July 2001

The Expert Meeting was held in Tianjin, China on 9-10 July 2001 under the aegis of the OECD Centre for Co-operation with Non-Members. This meeting, jointly organised by the China Insurance Regulatory Commission (CIRC) and the OECD, followed the one held in Beijing in January 2000, in which a broad agreement had emerged among participants that the co-operative process should be continued. The discussion focused on the key policy issues relevant to the development of the Chinese insurance market and its regulatory framework: organisational structure of the insurance supervisory authority, reinsurance, handling of distressed insurance companies, regulation and supervision of intermediaries, self-regulatory functions of insurance industry associations and impact of e-finance.
