OECD Reviews on "Local Innovation Systems and Entrepreneurship"

The OECD LEED Programme launched in 2006 this series of reviews which aim at providing policy recommendations to the participating country/region and its partners on how to strengthen its innovation system in order to underpin the economic development.  In particular, this exercise seeks to contribute to defining or refining the participating country/region’s innovation strategy and to exchanging information on good practices from other regions in a range of OECD member countries.

The first case study took place in the region of Cantabria, in Spain.  A group of four international experts led by the OECD Secretariat undertook a one-week mission to the region and met with regional authorities and stakeholders.  A report was prepared drawing from the information gathered and the anaylisis of the policy framework. The OECD report sets out recommendations for policy development in Cantabria in the light of good practices internationally.  It also provides information on approaches and innovations in other countries that could act as learning models for Cantabria's challenges.

The findings and recommendations were presented at a seminar in Santander, Spain, on 20 June 2007, organised by the Regional Development Agency (SODERCAN) and the University of Cantabria.

Representatives of governments and development agencies wishing to participate in the study are invited to contact the OECD Secretariat.
