The OECD and Civil Society 
|
|
The OECD has been working with civil society since it was founded. Since then the size, scope, and capacity of civil society has increased dramatically. The OECD’s engagement with civil society has expanded too, and both parties to this dialogue benefit: the public’s interest in globalisation is taken into account in the OECD’s work, and OECD analysis is stronger when they include the perspectives of CSOs.
OECD activities with civil society:
- Public consultations: Many OECD directorates hold regular consultations with civil society on developing or reviewing OECD work. Online consultations have broadened public participation in OECD’s work. CSOs are also active in implementing and monitoring products of the OECD’s work (more)
- Fora and workshops (including the OECD Forum) are convened at the OECD and around the world to elicit stakeholders’—including civil society—opinions.
- OECD Centres (in Berlin, Mexico City, Tokyo and Washington DC) offer a place to meet with civil society.

Relations with Business and Labour
|
|
|
Formal relations between the OECD and representatives of business and industry and of trade unions in member countries are conducted through two Organisations officially recognised by the OECD Council. These are the Business and Industry Advisory Committee to the OECD (BIAC) and the Trade Union Advisory Committee to the OECD (TUAC). Both contribute to most areas of the Organisation's work through policy dialogue and consultations.
Consultations with BIAC and TUAC are a regular and systematic part of most OECD committees' work. In addition annual consultations with BIAC and TUAC take place within the framework of the Liaison Committee of the OECD Council, which is chaired by the Secretary-General and open to all member countries. The OECD Ministerial Council Meeting (MCM) Bureau also consult annually with BIAC and TUAC ahead of the MCM. In 2010 and 2011, BIAC and TUAC participated fully in the MCM.
