Mr. Péter GOTTFRIED
Mr. Gottfried was born on 28 December 1954. He received his degree in Economics from the University of Budapest in 1978 and a Doctorate in Economics from the same university in 1985.
From 1978 to 1981, he worked for Intercooperation Ltd. In 1981, Mr. Gottfried joined the Ministry of Trade as Chief of Section at the Directorate General for International Economic Organisations and Tariff policy. Then, in 1983, he was posted to the Hungarian Representation to the United Nations Economic Organisations in Geneva. In 1985, Mr. Gottfried returned to Budapest where he served at the Ministry of International Economic Relations as Chief of Section at the Directorate General for International Economic Organisations and Tariff policy. From 1988 to 1989 he was the Chief of the EC Section at the Ministry of Industry and Trade. From September 1989 to 1995 Mr. Gottfried served with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Hungarian Mission to the EC in Brussels where he held various positions. He ended his posting as Chargé d’Affaires.
In 1995, Mr. Gottfried returned to Budapest and was appointed President of the Office of European Affairs at the Ministry of Trade. Then, from 1996 to 2002, he held the position of Deputy Head and subsequently, Head of the State Secretariat for Integration within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 2002 to 2005 he held the positions of Deputy Head and then Head of the State Secretariat for Integration and External Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Prior to taking up his appointment as Permanent Representative of Hungary to the OECD, Mr. Gottfried was State Secretary, President of the Office for European Affairs at the Office of the Prime Minister.
Ambassador Péter Gottfried took up his duties as Permanent Representative of Hungary to the OECD on 5 March 2007.
