Services Producer Price Indices: overview

Measurement of services prices from the prospective of the producer and in particular prices of services provided to business is an area of growing interest in national statistical agencies. With the increasing importance of the service sector in national economies there has been exposed a lack of appropriate deflators for service sector output.

This page aims to promote this work and facilitate information exchange, in particular to provide:

• Methodological guide for developing producer price indices for services (pdf) prepared jointly by the OECD and Eurostat.
• Information on the work countries are doing, shown in the results of the annual OECD survey of national collection of services producer prices. The inquiry is a joint venture between OECD and Eurostat covering all OECD countries and EU Member States. Information is collected also for several countries that are associated with the Voorburg Group. The present information is based on the situation at the beginning of 2008.
• Links to other relevant sites, particularly those connected to the Voorburg Group, which is fostering this work on prices.
• Names and contact details of specialists in services prices in national agencies to facilitate bilateral cooperation.
