Mr. Roger KAROUTCHI
Mr. Karoutchi was born in Casablanca, Morocco, on 26 August 1951. He holds a degree in history and a Masters in public law. He studied at the University of Aix-Marseille, the University of Paris 1 – Panthéon Sorbonne and the Institute d’études politiques (IEP) in Paris.
From 1975 to 1985, Mr. Karoutchi was a history teacher in Goussainville, then in Paris. From 1981 to 1985, he was also a national youth delegate of the Rassemblement pour la République (RPR) political party. Then, in 1986, Mr. Karouchi became technical counselor to the Minister of Social and Employment Affairs. From 1993 to 1997, he was head of cabinet, then director of cabinet to the Chair of the National Assembly and then Chair of the RPR. In 1992, he became a national delegate of the RPR, subsequently Vice-Chair (1994-1998) and Chair (1998) of the RPR at the Regional Council of the Ile de France; becoming Chair of the Union pour un Mouvement Populaire (UMP) at the same Council in 2002.
In 1997, Mr. Karoutchi was elected to the European Parliament. Then, from 1999 to 2007, he was Senator. Meanwhile, from 1997 to 2007, he was also a General Inspector of national education. From 2007, until his nomination as Permanent Representative of France to the OECD, Mr. Karoutchi was Secretary of State to the Prime Minister responsible for relations with the Parliament.
Ambassador Roger Karoutchi took up his duties as Permanent Representative of France to the OECD on 7 July 2009.
