OECD Workshop with non-member economies on shipbuilding policies, 18-19 December 2006


The OECD's Council Working Party on Shipbuilding (WP6) held a Workshop in Paris on 18-19 December 2006 with non-OECD ecconomies to take a stock-take of the global shipbuilding industry.  The Workshop was Chaired by the Chairman-elect of the WP6, Ambassador Neple of Norway.

Almost 90 Delegates participated in the Workshop.  In addition to the OECD members, other participants represented Brazil, China, Croatia, India, Indonesia, Malta, Romania and Chinese Taipei. There were also a number of industry participants, representing national and regional shipbuilder associations, shipowners and employee organisations.

The Workshop was divides into 3 Sessions:

  • Session 1 Changes to the Policy Landscape
  • Session 2 A Snapshot of the shipbuilding industry and its future prospects
  • Session 3 Impact of Technological and Environmental developments in the industry

As the Workshop was informal, no record has been kept of the discussions that took place amongst Delegates.  However, copies of all of the documents and presentations are available here.
