34th Session of the OECD Working Party on SMEs and Entrepreneurship (WPSMEE)

34th Session of the OECD WPSMEE including a Special Session on SME and Entrepreneurship Statistics

27-29 October 2008, OECD, Paris

During its 34th Session, the Working Party on SMEs and Entrepreneurship (WPSMEE) held a Tour de Table in order to engage in a preliminary exchange of views on the impact of the global financial crisis on SME financing.

Within the framework of the French presidency of the European Union, Mr. Hervé Novelli, State Secretary for Trade, Craft Industries, SMEs, Tourism and Services, France, presented to the WPSMEE Delegates the recent orientations of the French policy for SMEs. The Minister’s presentation was followed by a debate.

On Tuesday 28th October, the WPSMEE organised a special session on SME and entrepreneurship statistics related to globalisation with OECD and non OECD member countries’ statistical experts. Taking into account the evolving path and dynamics of globalisation and the accrued role played by innovation in determining a firm’s competitiveness, the Working Party will carry out in the biennium 2009-2010 an important study on the impact of globalisation on entrepreneurial activity and SME competitiveness.  This special day on statistics was dedicated to discussing and agreeing on the relevant approach and data for undertaking the study.

On Wednesday 29 October, a press briefing took place over lunch to inform the media about the new strategic partnership between the OECD Centre for Entrepreneurship and the Kauffman Foundation, with a particular focus on Global Entrepreneurship Week (http://www.kauffman.org/).  Some of the latest work undertaken by the WPSMEE was also highlighted, including recent work on High Growth SMEs and Innovation.
