The Global Development Outlook

Countries with large populations and with large resource bases seem to define the dominant economic impulse of the 21st century. With the contribution of prestigious scholars from Asia, Africa and Latin America, leading business and civil society actors, the Global Development Outlook (GDO) will monitor the impacts of the changing global economy on development, poverty and inequality, and promote change by proposing innovative policy solutions drawn from the Development Centre’s direct access to top decision makers in OECD and emerging countries.

The Global Development Outlook: A new OECD Development Centre Project

  • Beyond the immediate consequences of the global credit crisis, a major shift is underway in economic and political power towards the developing world and emerging economies.
  • In this context, the Global Development Outlook (GDO) will re-examine and help redefine the appropriate strategies and policies for development, poverty reduction and governance.
  • Informed by a series of original papers, consultations and seminars with top analysts and stakeholders from all over the world, the GDO will provide cutting-edge, independent analysis.
  • The GDO will invite and draw from active participation of Southern partners in the debates on global governance reform.
  • Extensive use will be made of the latest communications methods and technologies, including web 2.0. multimedia and interactive tools. The GDO will culminate in an OECD Development Centre annual flagship publication.
  • The Centre invites public and private partners to join the governments of its member countries in sponsoring this innovative project.
