This year's Global Forum will have two main aims: shaping the new OECD Strategy on Development and identifying priorities and best practices in making public expenditure more effective and efficient for development.
-
OECD Strategy on Development: Discussions will help shape this new strategy, called for by OECD Ministers in May 2011. In particular, participants will be invited to comment on work proposed in the areas of governance and domestic resource mobilisation.
-
More effective and efficient public expenditure: Participants will identify priorities and best practices in making public expenditure more effective and efficient for development. Amidst mounting pressure on public spending in developing countries, fiscal space may have increased, but raising taxation or debt often remains challenging. The aim at this forum will be to assess public sector capacity, and review the structures and tools used to ensure that public expenditure is effective, notably in the area of infrastructure.
The Forum will be held back-to-back with a celebration of the OECD Development Centre’s 50th Anniversary (1 March 2012), which will gather a range of ministers from OECD and non-member economies.
