On November 29-30, 1999, the OECD, the World Bank, the Australian Treasury/AusAID and APEC organised a meeting on Insolvency Systems in Asia: An Efficiency Perspective. The meeting brought together key senior policy makers, members of the judiciary, private sector practitioners, insolvency experts and academics from the Asian region and OECD member countries to report on recent developments in insolvency reform and to recommend measures to strengthen insolvency systems. The current effort by the World Bank to develop a set of principles and guidelines for effective insolvency systems was also addressed. Finally, the meeting discussed possibilities for follow-up work and the monitoring of progress.
