Demand and supply

The issues of demand, supply (shipbuilding capacity) and prices are crucially important, and will influence both policy decisions by governments and business/investment decisions by industry.  Therefore, the Working Party on Shipbuilding maintains a close watching brief on developments and when necessary considers their economic and policy implications.

The quantitative analyses of expected future demand for new ships, and the technical assessment of the available global shipbuilding capacity to meet that forecast demand are undertaken by the various national and region shipbuilder associations, using broadly similar (but not necessarily identical) methodologies.

While some of these assessments are made available to the Working Party on Shipbuilding for its own policy analysis, because of their commercial sensitivity most of these reports are not available for public distribution.  Those that are publicly available will be posted on this site.
