The work of the Development Centre on international migration comes within the scope of the Poverty Reduction and Social Development Unit, which aims at promoting policy coherence for development. Our work on migration and development demonstrates the important gains for migrants as well as for sending and receiving countries. It also shows how OECD country policies can influence and optimise the potential benefits of increased international labour mobility.
Our current work plan, financed by the MacArthur Foundation, looks at the governance of migration and links between emigration and labour markets. It focuses on Central America and West Africa. More information here.
In the framework of the annual publication Perspectives on Global Development, we also consider the effects of South-South migration in terms of social cohesion.

Working Papers
This paper analyses the links between emigration and labour markets in Honduras by exploiting the variation in the labour supply over time. It finds that a 10% increase in emigration from Honduras increased wages in Honduras by around 10%, an increase which is higher than previous findings in other countries – but diminishing over time.
This working paper uses an agricultural household model to explore the impact of potential immigration policy reforms on the welfare of rural households in Burkina Faso.
This working paper presents findings from an evaluation of the impacts of immigration policies on the welfare of migrants and their families in migrant-sending countries, focussing on Mexico and Nicaragua (US policies in the first case and US and Costa Rican policies in the second).
