Can international migration contribute to economic progress? Work of the Development Centre on Migration and Development demonstrates the important gains for migrants as well as for sending and receiving countries. It also shows how OECD country policies can influence and optimise the potential benefits of increased international labour mobility.

The OECD Development Centre and FLACSO will co-host a workshop on June 25th, 2009 in San Jose, Costa Rica to discuss migration issues in Central America, focusing on the themes of governance of migration and the links between migration and labour markets. Based on research papers dealing with these issues in the region, the sessions from the workshop will aim at sharing experiences and perspectives in frank, engaged and critical dialogue, among researchers and policy makers, leading towards a discussion of policy options for Central American countries.
