OECD/Canada/Alberta Conference on E-learning in Post-secondary Education: Policies, Practices and Research

The OECD/Canada/Alberta Conference on E-Learning in Post-Secondary Education: Policies, Practices, and Research was held in Calgary, Canada, on 26-28 June, 2005.  The conference was jointly organised by the OECD’s Centre for Educational Research and Innovation (CERI), Industry Canada, Human Resources and Skills Development Canada, and Alberta Advanced Education.  It was partly based on a new CERI study, E-Learning in Tertiary Education, that involved case studies from 13 countries. 

The conference was intended to:

• discuss key policy issues in e-learning in post-secondary education
• provide a forum for sharing good practices and challenges
• identify opportunities for research and collaboration.

E-learning is high on the tertiary education agenda. It will continue to grow, spurred by technological advancements, globalisation and market opportunities for which it seems to offer the most appropriate development strategy.  What are the key issues for policy-makers? What kinds of challenges are post-secondary education institutions are facing?  What would be the role of industries in advancing e-learning at post-secondary education institutions? 

By bringing together all relevant stakeholders in the field of e-learning (governmental policy-makers, institutional decision-makers, practitioners, researchers, and industry leaders), the OECD/Canada/Alberta Conference will promote understanding of relevant topics such as emerging technologies, innovative pedagogies, organisational change, regulatory frameworks, and quality assurance.
