CELE plans a school safety conference

CELE, the UK Department for Schools, Children and Families, UK Home Office and BRE are teaming up for an international conference on “Safer Schools, Safer Communities”.

An international conference on school safety and security will take place in London on 13-15 January 2010. Co-organised by OECD/CELE, the UK Department for Children, Schools and Families, the Home Office and the Building Research Establishment, “Safer Schools, Safer Communities: Ensuring Safe and Secure Environments for Children, Young People and the Community” will bring together international experts in the fields of education, psychology, social work, law enforcement and judicial reform; students, teachers and the youth workforce; policy makers; and researchers. Through keynote speeches, debates between international experts, presentations of national and international case studies, working group sessions and visits to schools in the London area, the conference will explore crime prevention through environmental design, programmes of social intervention, and actions of the police and the justice system in an education context.
