Egyptian Minister of State for Administrative Development to address OECD Council: press briefing 5 p.m. Wednesday 12 March 2008

10/03/2008 - Eygpt's Minister of State for Administrative Development, Dr. Ahmed Darwish, will hold a press briefing at 5 p.m. on Wednesday 12 March, ahead of his address to the OECD Council on the state of Eygpt's economic and public sector reforms.

The briefing will be held at OECD headquarters, room G, 2 rue André Pascal, Paris 75016. To register, journalists are invited to contact OECD's Media Division (tel: +33 1 45 24 97 00).

Egypt is not a member of the OECD but has been  co-operating  closely with the organisation since 2004 within the framework of the OECD-MENA Initiative on Governance and Investment for Development in Arab Countries (www.oecd.org/mena). Central to Egypt's reform programme is its  transformation to an open market economy. Annual economic growth has increased from 3% in 2003 to 7.2% in 2007.

OECD's Council is the 30-member organisation's  oversight and decision-making body. At its next session on the 13 March the Council will discuss economic development in non-member countries.
