OECD Global Forum on Information Systems and Network Security: Towards a Global Culture of Security,Hotel Bristol, Oslo, Norway, 13-14 October 2003

09/10/2003 - Security is critical to safeguarding information system infrastructures and information stored in systems or transmitted via networks. It is also crucial to business and consumer trust in online transactions. This Forum will raise awareness of the need for a global culture of security and will build consensus on policy frameworks necessary ensure the security of information systems
 
Participants from business, civil society, and OECD member and non-member countries will take stock of progress achieved by OECD member countries in implementing the 2002 OECD Guidelines on the Security of Information Systems and Networks (Security Guidelines). They will also cite case studies to illustrate their experience in implementing the Security Guidelines and will explore the use - present and future - of technology and security standards in safeguarding information systems and networks.

The Conference will be chaired by Mr. Peter Ferguson, Director, Electronic Commerce Policy, Industry Canada, Chair of the OECD Working Party on Information Security and Privacy. Speakers will include Herwig Schlögl, OECD Deputy Secretary-General; Odd Einar Dørum, Minister of Justice, Norway Oluf Ulseth, State Secretary for Trade and Industry, Norway; and Hugo Parr, Director General of the Ministry of Trade and Industry Norway and Chairman of the OECD Information Communication and Computer Policy Committee.

The Forum is hosted by the Norwegian government with sponsorship from the private sector and the World Bank InfoDev Programme. It is part of the programme of work both of the Directorate for Science, Technology and Industry and of the OECD Centre for Co-operation with Non-Members (CCNM).
