Review of higher education institutions in regional development 2008-10: The Bío Bío Region, Chile

Higher education has been defined as a high-priority sector for regional development.

By participating in the OECD Review of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Regional Development, the region hopes to:

  • Identify and overcome barriers to regional growth
  • Enhance the co-ordination of HEIs
  • Improve co-ordination within the private sector
  • Improve the relationship between HEIs, the private sector and government
  • Establish a permanent dialogue group

  • Widening access to higher education
  • Enhancing the quality of higher education
  • Building stronger state universities
  • Increasing the scientific and technological capacity of the region and the country
