First Meeting of the Steering Group on Regulatory Governance, South East Europe

A Regional Flagship Initiative on Regulatory Reform for South East Europe in the framework of the Investment Compact of the Stability Pact, 12 December 2003

At the proposal of the Romanian co-chair of the Investment Compact, SEE country representatives have agreed to establish a Steering Group on Regulatory Governance under the co-ordination of the Regulatory Governance Inititiative (RGI). The aim of the Steering Group is to accelerate the regulatory reform process in the region and to prepare for the 2004 Ministerial Meeting. Based on inputs from SEE governments, business sector representatives, investment communities and international organisations, the aim of the Steering Group Meetings is to prepare Regulatory Governance Action Plans and a set of recommendations for the 2004 Ministerial Meeting. It is envisaged that the process will require a second Steering Group Meeting, which will take place in Spring 2004. To prepare the background documents for the Ministerial Meeting, a network of consultants in individual SEE countries will be gathered. A lead consultant from the network will participate in the Steering Group meetings to ensure that the results of the discussions of the meetings are reflected in the final document addressed to Ministers.
