Technical workshop on security implications of climate change in the Sahel

Dakar (Senegal), 17 November 2009

Within the Sahel and West Africa Club's (SWAC/OECD) regional study on "Security implications of climate change in the Sahel" (SICCS), draft vulnerability maps will be presented to a group of 25-30 experts. They show how thematic analyses carried out in the areas of environment, socio-economics, climate, security and econometric modelling and their cross-analysis has allowed the definition, characterisation and localisation of zones of increased vulnerability. The link between demographic, socio-economic, climate realities and perceived future security risks is clearly identified and analysed. Participants will provide feedback on analyses and methodology and will contribute to define operational modalities of scenario-building (scheduled for January 2010).
