The following tables and charts (2006-2007) summarise statistics on aid focused on environment extended by each DAC member. Information shown includes the environment policy marker coverage, the top ten recipients, a sector breakdown of environment-focused aid, and data on aid focusing the Rio Conventions on biodiversity, desertification and climate change.

Charts are not shown for countries which do not report on the environment policy marker, or for which the marker coverage for the period 2006-2007 is too low [France, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal, Switzerland and the United States]. Among the countries presented in the following pages, the chart on Rio markers is not shown for Norway which does not report on them.

Guidance for the interpretation of the charts: The first element to take into account when analysing the data for one country or when comparing data between countries is the COVERAGE RATIO, i.e. the proportion of aid which is screened. A high percentage of environment-focused aid ALONE does not mean that aid is well aligned with the environment policy objective, such a conclusion would only be valid for a donor with 100% coverage. When comparing data between donors, both coverage ratio and the percent of aid focused on environment have to be considered. (A number of members do not screen contributions that are by nature likely to fall under the “not targeted” category, e.g. imputed student costs. Therefore, a high amount in the category “not screened” generally increases the percentage of environment-focused aid significantly.)
