Mr. Karel DYBA
Born in 1940, Mr. Dyba holds a doctorate in economics which he obtained in 1973 from the Prague School of Economics.
From 1964 to 1971, Mr. Dyba was a teacher at the Prague School of Economics. He was subsequently appointed Researcher and Senior Researcher at the Institute of Economics of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences. In 1984, Mr. Dyba was appointed Senior Researcher and Project Manager at the Institute for Forecasting of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences.
In 1990, Mr. Dyba was appointed Minister of Economic Policy and Development. The same year he became Director of the Institute of Economics of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences. He was also named President of the Czech Economic Association, a position he held until 1996. In 1992, he was elected Member of Parliament for the Civic Democratic Party, serving as Minister of Economy.
From 1997 until his nomination as Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to the OECD, Mr. Dyba was a private consultant specialising in business, policy and strategy related issues. He also served on the supervisory boards of Komercni banka, a Czech commercial bank; and Ceske radiokomunikace, a telecommunication company. He became a Professor of Economics in 2007.
Ambassador Karel Dyba took up his duties as Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to the OECD on 10 October 2007.
