During 2010 the OECD marked the 30th anniversary of its Guidelines on the Protection of Privacy and Transborder Flows of Personal Data. The Guidelines were the first international statement of the core information privacy principles and have proven highly influential over the years, serving as the basis for national and international privacy instruments.
The OECD has celebrated the 30th Anniversary of the OECD Privacy Guidelines by organising three Anniversary Events:
Along with these events, the OECD prepared a report on The Evolving Privacy Landscape.
Work in 2010 has laid the foundations for a review of the Guidelines. This assessment, called for by Ministers in the Seoul Declaration for the Future of the Internet Economy (2008), will determine whether the Guidelines need to be revised or updated to address the current environment for privacy and transborder flows of personal data.
