At its meeting in December 1998, the OECD's Maritime Transport Committee strongly endorsed an Action Plan to Combat Substandard Shipping which was derived from a roundtable meeting held with senior representatives from industry and governments earlier that year. A major target of the Action Plan is to increase transparency of information on substandard shipping, thereby facilitating access to relevant up-to-date information available on the Internet. The MTC Secretariat is discussing specific initiatives with relevant industry players.
This site provides Internet links to sites providing publicly available information on substandard shipping and related issues:
- Lists of ships detained by port state control
- Detailed information on vessels detained by port state control, including the reasons for their detention. Users should be aware that details of the seriousness of detentions may vary from site to site, and this should be recognised by decision makers.
- General information relevant to maritime safety and the protection of the environment
- This site is under constant development. Suggestions for possible additions or deletions can be sent to Linda Haie-Fayle at the OECD Maritime Transport Unit.
