Ms. Sarah DENNIS
Born in 1946, Ms. Dennis has a Masters in English literature and linguistics from Canterbury University (NZ) which she obtained in 1968.
Ms. Dennis joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the same year. From 1970 to 1974, she served as Second Secretary in Paris. In 1974 she became a policy officer, firstly at the Information Division, then in 1975, at the European Division. In 1976 she was a member of the New Zealand delegation to the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York. In 1977 she was seconded to the Prime Minister’s Department; and in the same year participated in the New Zealand delegation to the United Nations Special Session on Disarmament. From 1977 to 1981, Ms. Dennis served as First Secretary in London. In 1981 she took up the position of assistant head of the Economic Division, then assistant head of the South Pacific Division, and in 1984 she was seconded to the New Zealand Department of Trade and Industry.
From 1985 to 1987, Ms. Dennis was named Consul-General in New Caledonia with accreditation to French Polynesia. In 1987, she became Deputy High Commissioner to Ottawa. In 1992 Ms. Dennis returned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Deputy Director of the South Pacific Division before becoming Director of the Division in 1993. From 1997 to 2001, she served as High Commissioner to Malaysia. Subsequently, from 2001 to 2005, Ms. Dennis was Director of the South/South East Asia Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2005 she became Director of the Europe Division, a position he held until her appointment as Ambassador to France and Permanent Representative to the OECD.
Ambassador Sarah Dennis took up her post as Permanent Representative of New Zealand to the OECD on 19 April 2006.
