Experts meetings

In 2007, the OECD embarked on a series of three experts meetings, gathering top international specialists to discuss options for data development on the various dimensions of quality in higher education.
• Washington, 18 April 2007
The first meeting in Washington was primarily about the usefulness and desirability of an OECD international Assessment of Higher Education Learning Outcomes.
• Paris, 5-6 July 2007
The second meeting in Paris focused on the conceptual possibility of an AHELO.

• Seoul, 26-27 October 2007
The third meeting in Seoul concerned how to move from possibility to feasibility and focused on the design and implementation of a feasibility study.

List of experts involved in the 3 experts’ meetings.

Overall, expert advice is that the feasibility study should look both at transverse critical thinking and problem solving skills that are necessary for success in both academic and business contexts, combined with a subject specific test relating to one or at most two disciplines. To test the latter, they suggested that the OECD explores one or two areas – with engineering and economics as possible candidates.
