OECD SSR handbook launch and training in Canada – February 2008

The Canadian government launched the OECD Security System Reform Handbook on 25 February 2008 in Ottawa.  The launch was presided over by Robert Derouin, Director General, Stabilisation and Reconstruction Task Force (START),  Department of  Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada. Rory Keane, representing the OECD DAC secretariat, addressed some of the key SSR challenges and opportunities facing donors, putting a strong emphasis on the need for an SSR whole of government approach. Representatives from SSR related Canadian departments across government attended the launch and thereafter partook in a very successful three day SSR consultation, based on the OECD  SSR handbook.
