Review of higher education in regional and city development 2008-10: the State of Victoria, Australia

By participating in the OECD Review, the State of Victoria hopes to:

  • Gain knowledge on how HEIs can better connect with local communities
  • Advance economic and other aspects of development, especially parts of provincial Victoria at a distance from metropolitan Melbourne
  • Inform higher education delivery in provincial Victoria by best models in other OECD countries

Key issues in Victoria

  • Provision of economic and community infrastructure
  • Impacts of climate change on local and regional economies
  • Ageing population
  • Growth in larger regional centres and along the coast at the expense of smaller towns and rural areas.
  • Workforce related issues, including the demand and supply of employment
