The annual 1999 REPIN (NISECEN) meeting took place on 23-24 September in Chisinau, Moldova and was intended to provide a basis for the future activities enforcement and compliance under the EAP Task Force. The main objectives of the meeting were threefold:

• to discuss problems and opportunities in ensuring compliance with, and enforcement of, environmental laws and regulations in the NIS on the basis of the preliminary results from a survey on this subject;
• to provide a forum for environmental inspectors and policy makers from the NIS as well as experts and partners from CEE and OECD countries for sharing experience and knowledge on practices in
  enforcement and compliance;
• to launch a network on environmental compliance and enforcement in the NIS and identify its possible activities.
