Promoting investment in times of economic crisis and beyond

Following the mandate from the launch of the OECD Central Asia Initiative on 4-5 November 2008, this preliminary meeting of the Central Asia Working Group on Investment Climate Policy and Promotion was held on 17 September 2009 in Astana, Kazakhstan alongside the International Conference on Creating Conditions for Sustainable Economic and Social Development in Eastern Europe and Central Asia on 16-18 September 2009. 

This preliminary meeting – organised by the Central Asia Initiative of the Eurasia Competitiveness Programme – brought investment policy experts and key partner organisations to the table to discuss strategies and priorities to improve the investment climate on a national level, concentrating on promoting investment in the Central Asia region in times of economic crisis and beyond.

 

The objective of the meeting was to initiate dialogue focusing on

  • investment policies in times of economic crisis
  • the impact of the crisis on Central Asia and their government responses
  • business integrity and investment
