OECD Secretary-General attended annual meeting of senior officials from Centres of Government in Mexico (25 - 26 September 2008)

Secretary-General Angel Gurría attended the Network of Senior Officials from Centres of Government meeting in Mexico on 25 – 26 September 2008.

 

This year's meeting offered an opportunity for members to discuss the challenge of implementing policy reforms while ensuring the stakeholders' support without which reform could fail. Mr Gurría delivered a keynote speech for the opening of the meeting and also had bilateral discussions with the following Mexican government officials:

  • Mr. Agustín Carsterns, Minister of Finance
  • Mr. Gerardo Ruiz Mateos, Minister of the Economy
  • Mrs. Josefina Vazquez Mota, Minister of Education
  • Mr. Salvador Vega Casillas, Minister of the Public Function

Financial crisis: Save our savings

Amid the worst current financial crisis since the 1930s, EU leaders have pledged to protect savers’ deposits. Already most OECD countries have explicit deposit insurance schemes for savings up to certain limits. In a number of countries these have now been raised temporarily.
