OECD review of higher education and regional development out on 19 September 2007 – news conference in Valencia, Spain

14/09/2007 - How can OECD countries mobilise higher education to support regional development? What role can higher education institutions play in linking regions to the global knowledge economy?  These are among issues explored in a new OECD review of the interplay between higher education and regions due out on 19 September.

OECD will launch the report Higher Education and Regions: Globally Competitive, Locally Engaged and discuss its findings at a conference at the Technical University of Valencia, Spain on 19-21 September 2007.

The conference, bringing together national and regional policy makers from OECD countries as well as regional development officers and higher education and business leaders, will be open to the media. It has been supported by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science, Valencia Regional Government (Generalitat Valenciana), Fundacion CYD and the Technical University of Valencia.

OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría and Mercedes Cabrera, Minister of Education, together with OECD experts will hold a news conference at 12.30 p.m. on 19 September at the Technical University of Valencia.
