Inflation in the OECD area drops to 2.1% in September 2006 on calmer energy prices

31/10/2006 - In the OECD area, consumer prices rose by 2.1% in the year to September 2006, compared with 3.0% in the year to August 2006. On a monthly basis, the price level decreased by 0.1% between August and September 2006 after a rise by 0.2% between July and August 2006.
The drop in inflation rates mainly reflects a lower year-on-year increase of energy prices (0.3% in September after a rise by 11.6% in August) with even a 0.1% fall in energy prices for the G7 countries in the year to September as against a rise of 12.4% in August...etc.
