Nikolaus Berlakovich was appointed as Federal Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management in December 2008.
A farmer by profession, Mr Berlakovich is a graduate in agriculture of the Vienna University of Natural Resources and Applied Natural Sciences. He is also Head of the Farmer's Federation of the Province of Burgenland.
Prior to his appointment as Minister, Mr Berlakovich was a Delegate to the Provincial Parliament of Burgenland from 1991 to 2005, when he then became a member of the Provincial Government. Since 1991 he has also been the Deputy Head of the Provincial parliamentary group of the Austrian People's Party (OVP) Burgenland.
