Press release from the OECD Council: OECD Ambassadors start the process of selecting the next Secretary-General on 3-4 October 2005

20/09/2005 - The Ambassadors representing the OECD’s 30 member countries will start the process of selecting the next Secretary-General with individual hearings of the six candidates in Paris on 3 -4 October. The biographies and other details of the six candidates are available on the OECD website at www.oecd.org/secretarygeneral/selection.

The consultation process leading up to the appointment of a successor to Donald J. Johnston, whose term expires in May 2006, will begin in the week of October 17. The Dean of the Ambassadors, the Swiss permanent representative Wilhelm Jaggi, will conduct a process of successive consultations with a view to narrowing the field of candidates and ultimately to arriving at a consensus among the 30 member countries on the choice of the new Secretary-General. He will be assisted in that task by the Chairman of the Executive Committee, Ambassador Peter Brückner (Denmark) and the Chair of the Committee for the Cooperation with Non-Members, Ambassador Jocelyne Bourgon (Canada).
