OECD Health Data 2009 - Frequently Asked Questions

REMINDER: Before installing the software with the CD-ROM, please make sure that all applications are closed, the anti-virus is disabled and that the previous version of OECD Health Data has been de-installed.

In case you do not find the answer to your question in the FAQs below, please contact us directly at health.contact@oecd.org.

1. Problem: I cannot find the serial number to install the CD-ROM.
Solution: The serial number is located on the inside cover of the Users' Guide. Please make sure you close all applications before launching the CD-ROM.

2. Problem: How can I be sure I have the latest version of OECD Health Data 2009?
Solution: After you have downloaded and installed the November update, the date on the main menu of the database will indicate "Version 11/05/2009".

3. Problem: The following error message appears when I launch OECD Health Data, under Windows XP: "The resource file is not valid. Overwrite it with a new empty one?"
Solution: Although Windows XP may ask this question upon launching the software, the Health Data application works with no problem after clicking on "yes".
To avoid that this error message appears again:
1/ Delete the two files named foxuser.dbf and foxuser.fpt, which are located at the root of the Health Data folder (administrator's rights may be needed to delete these files from your computer).
2/ Launch OECD Health Data.
PS: This problem has been seen on specific Windows XP configurations.

4. Problem: The error message "The dynamic link library MSVCR70.dll could not be found in the specified path" appears when launching OECD Health Data or the Internet update program.
Solution: The DLL file MSVCR70.dll is missing in your system file.
To solve this problem:
1/ Download MSVCR70.dll (336 Kb).
2/ Copy the DLL file in the folder windows\system32.
3/ Launch OECD Health Data or the Internet update program.

5. Problem: The following error messages appear when you launch OECD Health Data: "ECOWIN200x caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL", or "ECOWIN200x caused an invalid page fault in module VFP6R.DLL".
This problem has been happening on the Hebrew version of Windows.
Solution: The DLL file vbame.dll is missing in the System folder.
1. Download the file vbame.dll (56 Ko).
2. Copy this file in the sub-folder windowssystem.
3. Reboot your computer.
4. Launch OECD Health Data.

6. Problem: I'm looking for the definitions, sources and methods attached to the variables.
Solution: Click on the button [Sources].

7. Problem: I don't have access to all the variables.
Solution: Click on the [+] button in front of the different chapters to access the whole structure.

8. Problem: When I start OECD Health Data, a window appears with one of the following messages: "Index does not match the table. Delete the index file and re-create the index" or "L'index ne correspond pas au tableau. Supprimez le fichier index et recréez l'index".
Solution: The index files have been damaged. Select 'Cancel' to quit the programme, Simply delete the '.cdx' files from the 'Ecosante.baz' directory and from your active base directory (Ocde.baz). Restart OECD Health Data and all the index files will automatically be recreated.

9. Problem: A message "Cannot update the cursor/Mise à jour de l'objet curseur impossible" appears when I use OECD Health Data.
Solution: The user does not have the administrator rights (read, write, edit, delete) on the OECD Health Data folder and sub-folders. For instance, when installing the software OECD Health Data on a Windows 2000/Me/XP-equipped computer, using administrator's rights, the files copied in the folder "Ecowin200x" can be accessed only by the administrator of the computer. The software thus cannot be used by the users themselves. To solve that problem, the administrator must change the rights under "Type of access" for the folder "Ecowin200x" and its sub-folders, into "Modify" or "Full control" for the actual user of the software.

10. Problem: When I import a table from OECD Health Data to Excel and then open it in Excel, there are frequently errors in subsequent calculations using the imported data in an Excel environment.
Solution: When opening tables exported in Excel, a "general option" is automatically modified in Excel. This modification results in errors when performing calculations on the imported data/tables. To fix this, open the Tools menu and select Options. Following this, select "Calculations" and click in the box for automatic.

The OECD and IRDES Internet sites will endeavour to disseminate answers to typical technical questions as fast as possible, along with data updates, additional information on the variables, examples of tables, and the expected publication date of OECD Health Data 2010.
